Tuesday, September 8, 2020, Washington, DC — With the At Large Council Race heating up and an election less than 60 days away, candidates are taking positions on key issues around the city, including about one of the most controversial projects in DC history: McMillan Park.
Already 10 12 candidates have in one form or another stated they believe either the current McMillan project should:
• Be defunded with the $75M allocated in DC’s budget to demolish the historic site shifted to more pressing needs during this ongoing pandemic;
• Be reset for its lack of competitive bidding, paltry affordable housing and giveaway of public land; and/or
• Include retaining at least 50% of open green space (matching the Sierra Club’s 2012 position).
These candidates include:
Ann Wilcox, Ed Lazere, Will MerrIfield, Markus Batchelor, Vincent Orange, Mario Cristaldo, Keith Silver, Franklin Garcia, Kathy Henderson, Mónica Palacio, Jeanné Lewis, and Marya Pickering.
The facts as to how bad a deal this is for DC residents and our environment around McMillan and citywide is plainly obvious.
