Washington, DC, July 12, 2022 — Letters from more than 70 people, almost all Ward 3 residents, have gone into the DC City Council since Friday with major concerns about the Chevy Chase Small Area Plan (CCSAP).
Residents are asking for the Council to pause the vote today when it was found out that Council Chair Phil Mendelson was putting the CCSAP on the table at the last Council legislative session today.
But disparate voices agree that the lack of social housing being centered in the Plan is a major oversight, as is the “disposition” of the valuable public land along Connecticut Avenue.
Moreover, residents feel that the Mayor and Office of Planning did not conduct a robust impact study and evaluate actual on-the-ground-data to substantiate the Mayor's desired inducement of population growth. Read the letters attached.
Democratic Nominee Matthew Frumin has yet to weigh in publicly about Ward 3 residents' opposition to the Mayor's proposed Chevy Chase Small Area Plan. Frumin happens to be away on vacation as stated by email when asked about his position, without further elaboration.
The Council may vote today on the resolution.
