Walking Tour of DDOT 17th St. Bike Plan with Mayor’s Agent Today
Drawing attention to the reckless and dangerous Bike Plan in a congested commercial stretch in East Dupont, the city-wide Coalition on DDOT Bike Plans will lead the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS) in a walking tour of the Bike Plan installed in July by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) on 17th St., NW.
What: Walking Tour of 17th St. NW Bike Plan
Where: Beginning at the Safeway at 17th and Corcoran Sts. NW
When: 3 pm, today, Thursday, Nov. 18
Live stream on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/dccoalitiononddotbikelanes/
The tour is organized by the Dupont East Civic Action Association (DECAA), a partner and founder of the Coalition, to call attention the chaotic and confusing changes to traffic patterns installed without community engagement. It is one of many that is causing neighborhoods around the city to push back. DECAA has been asking for a public presentation of the confusing Plan since March when Councilmember Brooke Pinto gleefully announced the breakthrough in its design, “All traffic will be funneled through one lane and a new protected bile lane will be installed on the east side of the street against the flow of traffic.” She and DDOT have since refused even a public presentation. Meanwhile DDOT has unleashed a torrent of $150 parking tickets to punish patrons of the shops in a commercial stretch where all parking spaces are now illegal.
DECAA has collected 780 signatures on a petition calling for a comprehensive review of the reckless and dangerous Bike Plan.
